L3Harris and Comtech have recently released a new multi-orbit, tactical satcom embeddable modem, which works with certain L3Harris terminals.

The partners said the new C2 modem announced March 31 will be the only embeddable modem available to operate on SES’ Medium Earth Orbit Global Services (mGS) and the U.S. Space Force’s Wideband Global Satcom (WGS) system. It is currently going through U.S. Space Force Delta 8 certification for WGS.

It is built on Comtech’s software-defined architecture to enable fast modem reconfiguration depending on operational needs.

The modem is compatible with L3Harris tactical terminals like the Panther II VSAT and HawkEye Fly-Away. The companies say it offers secure multi-orbit access across commercial MEO, Geostationary Orbit (GEO), and High Earth Orbit (HEO) networks.

“This is a unique pairing of technologies that significantly enhances operator effectiveness and overall mission success,” said Chris Aebli, president of Mission Critical Communications for L3Harris. “This collaboration was a significant undertaking and results in an embeddable modem that can operate between the mGS and WGS constellations, making it the only satcom solution of its kind in the marketplace.”
